Longerenong College is situated 13 kilometres north-east of Horsham in the Wimmera region of Victoria. We conduct vocational education and training in the agriculture and land management fields at the Certificate II through to Advanced Diploma levels.
We operate a farm of approximately 1,070 hectares with cropping, sheep (merino and prime lambs) and beef cattle enterprises. The farm is operated commercially using management strategies equating to best local practices. The farm provides us with the ideal resources for “hands on” training in the practical skills required for these enterprises.
Classes at Longerenong are very relaxed compared with those at secondary school. Our teachers are exceptionally skilled at explaining sometimes complex agricultural principles in everyday terms and like to interact with their students in a friendly environment.
We offer a variety of skills courses such as shearing, truck driving, forklift operation, header operation, using farm records and financial packages, first aid and metal fabrication. Many of these are taught as subjects in our main courses and are available for anyone to undertake as short courses. We also have many subjects available by flexible delivery.
We have board and lodging at the College for students studying full time at the campus or attending training blocks or workshops and have a range of sporting, social and recreational facilities for students to enjoy.
All this adds up to make Longerenong a great place where students can gain real skills and practical knowledge while enjoying the social aspects of being part of our small but close and vibrant student community.
Other facilities located on the campus include a modern wool classing training centre, a fire fighting training centre and the Wimmera Machinery Field Days are held adjacent to the campus in March of every year.
