This full-time or semi-flexible course is ideal for people specialising in agronomy or those returning home to the family farm. With emphasis on crop production and other agronomic extensions, it is well designed to develop your career in broadacre cropping.
The course can be completed as a stand alone qualification or in conjunction with the Advanced Diploma of Agriculture course.
Longerenong graduates are highly sought after by the rural and agribusiness industries. This course provides individuals with the technical and applied skills and knowledge required to enable them to fulfil the functions of an agronomist. This could be in the area of sales, advisory services, research or farming.
How do I gain a qualification?
The course has been designed to meet the qualifying requirements of the Diploma of Agronomy as listed in the Victorian State Register of Accredited Courses and Recognised Qualifications . Students must successfully complete a set number of competencies as prescribed by the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development, Victoria curriculum document
To be awarded the Diploma of Agronomy qualification, participants are required to complete five core units of competency and five electives. Two of the five elective units of competency may be selected from Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma levels from nationally endorsed Training Packages provided they are relevant to the course outcome or meet an enterprise need. Students can complete the course by full or part-time study. Diploma of Agronomy subjects are taught in a range of ways, over differing timeframes and therefore the course structure will be constructed on an individual basis.
Timetabled sessions are a combination of lectures, practical activities, demonstrations and tours.
Gaining admission to the program
This course is open to people who meet one of the following minimum criteria:
Completion of a TAFE Certificate IV in Agriculture or above.
Mature age entry (at least 21 years of age) and demonstrated aptitude and industry experience for the course.
Can I get credit for previous study/experience?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is the acknowledgement of skills and knowledge obtained through formal training, work experience and/or life experience. If you believe you are able to demonstrate the required level of competence in a unit you can apply for RPL by contacting the Student Administration Officer (hyperlink here to SAO) .
Credit Transfer (CT) is when the same unit of competency is completed within another program or within the same program but with another institution. No fees apply for CT.
The full-time course commences in the second week of February each year.
Students wishing to enrol part-time may commence the course at any stage.

Tuition fees for government funded courses are in accordance with the Ministerial Direction on Fees and Charges.
