Library

Our Library holds around 10,000 books, 300 multimedia materials and subscribes to various relevant journals. These collections are specifically designed to support the information and research needs of Longerenong students and staff.

We have an electronic Library catalogue that can be accessed from any computer on the College network. There are six networked computer workstations in the Library for you to do this as well as research on the internet and use your College e-mail.

The Library is a convenient, quiet and relaxed place to study where students can take advantage of the expertise of Library staff as well as the other services and facilities we offer.
We are open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 4pm on Friday, excluding Public Holidays.

Who can borrow?

Any currently enrolled student of Longerenong College can borrow from the Library by producing their current Student Card to Library staff.

Members of the general public may join the Library and borrow for a small annual fee.

What can be borrowed?

Most books are available for 28 days and patrons can borrow up to 15 books at any one time. Recommended texts and books in high demand can only be borrowed for 7 days, 2 days or overnight depending on their popularity.

Some books have associated software which is kept in the Librarian’s office and is only loaned on request. These items can be borrowed for 7 days.

If you want to borrow an item but it is out on loan, ask the Library staff to place a hold on it for you or do it yourself using the Library Catalogue.

Renewals

Loans can be renewed up to 4 times for any one item. To renew items you can contact Library staff in person, by telephone or by email or you can do it yourself via the Library Catalogue using the My Loans option.

Renewals will not be permitted if:

You only need to bring items to be renewed to the loans desk if you want to have them restamped.

Returns

Returns are accepted at the loans desk when the Library is open and via the ‘after hours’ return chute at all other times. The ‘after hours’ return chute is located at the top of the ramp near the library car park.

Fines

You will be fined for every loan that you return late. The fines vary according to the loan period of the items concerned. Items in heavy demand with short loan periods will attract fines at a faster rate than books with the standard 28 day loan period.

Your borrowing privileges will be suspended while you have overdue loans.
