Our Library holds around 10,000 books, 300 multimedia materials and subscribes to various relevant journals. These collections are specifically designed to support the information and research needs of Longerenong students and staff.
We have an electronic Library catalogue that can be accessed from any computer on the College network. There are six networked computer workstations in the Library for you to do this as well as research on the internet and use your College e-mail.
The Library is a convenient, quiet and relaxed place to study where students can take advantage of the expertise of Library staff as well as the other services and facilities we offer.
We are open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 4pm on Friday, excluding Public Holidays.
Items in high demand or that have been recommended by teachers are placed in our special shelf or reserve collection. These items can be used in the library, and borrowed overnight after 4pm. They are due back by 10am on the next day the Library is open.
Newspapers available include The Weekly Times, The Stock and Land, The Land, The Stock Journal, The Herald Sun, The Age, The Wimmera Mail Times, and The Weekly Advertiser.
A collection of new issues and back issues of journals covering a range of topics relevant to the programs offered is also available.
Reference materials available include dictionaries, encyclopaedias, directories, handbooks, fire maps and other basic reference tools. This material is generally not for loan.
For the keen readers we have a limited fiction collection courtesy of the Wimmera Regional Library Service.
Our Vertical File includes current newspaper clippings and pamphlets on a variety of topical subjects. They are arranged in alphabetical order according to subject, and can be borrowed overnight.
We have a collection of memorabilia including historical photos, college magazines, and farm and student records dating back to Longerenong’s inception in 1889. The collection is incomplete due to the 1940 fire that destroyed a lot of the records. Memorabilia items cannot be borrowed.
For more information about Longerenong’s history visit the Our History page.
The Bookroom sells basic stationery items, prescribed texts, stamps and Longerenong memorabilia as well as snack foods and soft drinks. You can pay cash for your purchases or run an account that must be settled at the end of each term. Note that credit limits and other conditions apply to bookroom accounts.
Books on any subject can be ordered from local suppliers through the Bookroom. You will usually benefit from a minimum 10% discount on the normal retail price. A small delivery fee may apply.
We have a kitchenette where you can make yourself a tea or coffee to enjoy while you read the latest newspaper or catch up with friends. There is no charge for this service which is funded by the Longerenong Student Association.
You can also use the microwave oven in the kitchenette to heat your own food and beverages.
Note that you are only able to consume food and drinks in the designated area of the Library.
