- Farm or station hand
- Farm or station worker
- Livestock transport driver
How do I gain a qualification?
The training program has been designed to meet the qualification requirements of the AHC30122 Certificate III in Agriculture under the Agriculture, Horticulture and Conservation and Land Management Training Package (AHC). Students must successfully complete 16 units of competency as prescribed by the Australian Qualifications Framework to be awarded the AHC20116 Certificate II in Agriculture allowing progression to the next certificate level.
How is the training program delivered?
A farm apprenticeship/traineeship combines full time paid work on the farm with ‘off the job’ training at Longerenong College. A school based apprentice/trainee undertakes the same program while still attending school. The ‘off the job’ training component comprises of week long training blocks conducted at Longerenong College throughout the year. The blocks involve 4 to 5 days of intense theoretical and practical training which is then reinforced in the workplace. Some assessment is also undertaken in the workplace.
Number of Trade Blocks
1st Year Apprentices: 3 trade blocks
2nd Year Apprentices: 6-7 trade blocks
3rd Year Apprentices: 5 trade blocks
What are the entry requirements?
School Based Apprenticeships/Traineeships are open to students aged 15 years or older who are permanent residents of Australia. To be able to undertake a SBAT at Longerenong College you must:

- Be undertaking VCE/VCAL studies
- Undertake paid employment on a farm for a minimum of 15 hours per week.
All students must complete the enrolment process to undertake the Training Program including a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment and Pre-Training Review to ensure the training program is suitable for the student to enrol.
The full time Farm Apprenticeship is open to any person aged 15 years or older who is employed full time on a farm or related business.
Special consideration may be given to participants who do not meet any of these criteria. Please contact the Administrative Officer for more information.
Can I get recognition for prior learning/experience?
Credit Transfer (CT)
Longerenong College recognises all Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualifications and statements of attainments issued by other training providers. A student may apply to have a unit of competency recognised by Longerenong College if the unit code and title exactly matches the unit of competency for which recognition is being sought; or if the unit of competency held is superseded and equivalent to the current unit of competency.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Longerenong College recognises that people learn and acquire skills and knowledge in ways other than just formal study or current training. A person may acquire skills relevant to the work situation through non-accredited training courses, workplace training, hobbies, interests and life experience. Sometimes the skills and knowledge acquired in these ways can be applied to the current workplace tasks and roles a person is performing. The RPL process measures these previously acquired skills and knowledge against unit/s of competency.
Students can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning or Credit Transfer as part of the Enrolment Process. Longerenong College verify the evidence provided by prospective students applying for Recognition of Prior Learning.
